b7ebb9f6-6f15-4d0e-a111-50fe2b003c50Lighthouse Marine Equipment Ltd recently appointed a new technical team. Kirk Douglas and Shasa Thornton are based at the company’s Albany headquarters just north of Auckland, but service marine customers right around the country.

Highly qualified marine engineer Kirk Douglas heads up the team, bringing years of engineering, manufacturing and workshop experience, here in New Zealand and overseas, in a variety of areas including heavy machinery, hydraulic, electronic and electrical systems. In recent years he’s specialised in marine engineering, particularly system design for boat builders, marine architects and project managers. Previous employers include Maris Yachts, Craig Loomes Design (now LoMocean Design) and General Marine Services.

“I like helping people get things done and enjoy coming up with solutions to technical problems so that things work as they should,” Kirk explains.

Kenyan-born Shasa Thornton loves the boating lifestyle. An enthusiastic young sailor, he recently graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Working under Douglas’ supervision, Shasa is a hands-on member of the Lighthouse team who, says Kirk, is making excellent progress in learning marine equipment sales, installation and servicing aspects of the company’s business while also coming to grips with the marine industry as a whole.

“I see the appointments [of Kirk and Shasa] as an investment in our customers and further evidence of our commitment to the New Zealand marine industry,” said Lighthouse Marine Equipment MD Mike Harris.

“Douglas is the whole package. He has the skills to develop products, the ability to document them properly and then to sell them – a real all-rounder. I’m also pleased we’ve been able to introduce a bright young man like Shasa to the marine industry. Both men are extremely customer focused and together offer a vast and complementary array of knowledge, experience and talent. I’m excited for the future,” Harris said.

The Lighthouse Tech Team offers technical support, equipment/system design, installation, repairs and sales support services for a huge range of marine equipment products Lighthouse supplies to boatbuilders, OEMs, chandlers and specialist retailers around New Zealand.

The pair is also involved in building, selling and installing Resolution Watermakers, a product designed and built by Lighthouse Marine Equipment Ltd. Kirk and Shasa are currently engaged in refinements to standardise all three Resolution Watermaker models, preparing comprehensive operation/service manuals, and in finalising packaging for export markets.

The World’s Finest Unbreakable Drinkware – a synergy of form and function.
”the most glass-like, the most beautiful, the most user friendly and the highest quality unbreakable drinkware range available in the world.”

bannermarcnewsonThe Whisky, Highball, Wine and Flute blend as a family. The coloured bases add a further sense of drama and individuality. They are a work of art that will bring pleasure to discerning users.

The glasses will typically be used outdoors and in marine conditions where the surface may be uneven or unstable and where there may be wind. They are often used where glass presents a safety issue.

The non-slip base help prevents movement and because it insulates the glass from a bench, it as acts as a coaster.

The Glow-in-the dark base (green colour only) is popular in cruising, camping and low-light applications. The tumblers stack with precision onto a fine ledge saving valuable storage space and preventing sticking and damage.

The range is totally unbreakable in normal use – the clear tops are made in either super-tough polycarbonate or Triton. The range is also dishwasher safe. Annealing is used to give almost unlimited life – much longer than all other competitors’ ranges tested.

The range is a safe alternative to glass and breakable plastics.

2013 Good Design Award

Recognized by the awarding of a Good Design Award by the Australian International awards’ judges.Further recognition was received by the selection of the range to be displayed at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney from August 2013 for one year.

MasterFlush-orbitMaximum Installation Flexibility. Fitting a standard marine toilet in a small boat usually meant sacrificing comfort and appearance for the sake of fit and function. However, Dometic’s latest engineering innovation – Omnidirectional Rotating Base Installation Technology (ORBIT) – puts a whole new spin on basic marine heads with the new MasterFlush 7100 and 7200 series of toilets.

By providing a full 360 degrees of bowl-to-base rotation, the ORBIT base can be positioned in any configuration to maximize even the smallest installation space and accommodate diverse plumbing layouts.

7100 Series Toilets Offer Premium Comfort for the Boat owner Employing the same large enameled seat and deep ceramic bowl size of a residential round-front toilet, the 7100 toilet series introduces a new path to better comfort for owners of small boats. Smoothly contoured seat-to-bowl design conveys an expensive look – without the extra cost. The deep, rounded bowl also results in splash-resistance during use and while underway.

If a lower toilet height is desired, the compact size of the 7200 series bowl is 1.5 in. (38 mm) lower than the 7100 series to accommodate tighter space considerations.

Most Effective Waste Maceration. As with all Dometic MasterFlush toilets, 7100 and 7200 series toilets assure trouble-free, odor-free performance by virtue of unmatched maceration effectiveness. A rugged, glass-filled nylon twin impeller instantly draws effluent into the macerating chamber, where the 10-blade stainless steel cutting wheel pulverizes waste and ejects it to the discharge line/holding tank.
